Walking around Temple Square in the evening is also quite nice in Salt Lake City.Īnother alternative is to stay up here in Park City on Sunday evening and enjoy our mountain resort lifestyle. And allow 3-4 hours for the drive, climb up to the cave and tour. The cave is about 20-30 minutes off I-15. Both would give you a scenic alternative if you have the day on Sunday. It's immediately adjacent to I-15.Īnother option for you is to drive up US 12 through the Escalante region or take US 89 up to Salt Lake City. We've never stopped at Cove Fort, but it's an easy spot to see and wouldn't take more than 15-30 minutes. Also, if you stay in downtown SLC or near the airport, traffic will not be a factor on Monday at any time. And, if you're going to the airport, you can use Bangerter Highway (Utah 154) as an alternative). The only way you'll hit traffic is if you come back early Monday morning and hit I-15 northbound in Salt Lake City. I also wouldn't worry too much about traffic. And there's nothing really significant on the direct route back. It's only 4-5 hours, so there's no reason to split it somewhere. Is the Cave Fort place interesting? How about that Timapogos cave place? I don't LIKE it, but does it make sense to bite the bullet and drive back all at once?įinally, what would you recommend that I see between Zion and Salt Lake City, preferably near the major roads? I'll have already seen Bryce Canyon at that point. If I split up the return journey and came back on Monday morning, I'd (a) lose any chance of seeing anything in Salt Lake City - the Monday itinerary if I drive in Sunday - and (b) spend a lot of time sitting in traffic Monday morning. I've heard bad things about traffic in Salt Lake City during rush hour. On the way back, however, things are trickier. Going from Salt Lake City to Arches over two days is a given - check out the Cleveland Dinosaur Quarry and stay in Price/Cleveland in between. The question is: should I drive back to Salt Lake City Sunday? Or should I break the return trip up into two days, staying in a hotel somewhere? The flight back from SLC is Monday morning or Monday afternoon (I haven't figured out which I'd do yet). I'm going to be leaving Zion on Sunday morning. I'm finalizing my trip and found myself in a bit of a dilemma.
